Dennis L. Martire, vice president and mid-Atlantic regional manager of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), has a career defined by transformative achievements. One of his most significant victories was leading the unionization of workers on the Fluor-Lane Route 495 Hot Lanes Project in Virginia.

A Career of Impact

Since joining LIUNA in 1990 as an international representative, Martire has risen through the ranks. A graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College and a member of Local Union #1058 in Pittsburgh, he progressed to assistant director, director of the construction department, and assistant regional manager before his election to his current role in 2002.

Empowering Route 495 Workers

The Route 495 project marked a turning point for Virginia’s construction industry. Martire’s leadership empowered over 200 workers to vote overwhelmingly in favor of joining LIUNA’s Local 11.
